Job Title: OT/ICS Engineer (Contract Basis, Remote - Germany)

Contract Type: Freelance/Contract


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operational Technology (OT) / Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This role is remote, but the candidate must be based in Germany and available for occasional on-site visits as required. The successful candidate will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and efficient OT/ICS systems to support industrial processes and operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain OT/ICS infrastructure, including SCADA systems, PLCs, and DCS.
  • Develop and implement system architectures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Perform risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to enhance system security.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues in OT/ICS environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT and cybersecurity specialists, to ensure seamless integration of OT systems.
  • Provide technical expertise for network and communication protocols used in industrial automation.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including system diagrams, user manuals, and technical reports.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., IEC 62443, NIST).
  • Provide training and support to operational teams on OT systems and best practices.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in OT/ICS engineering, including SCADA systems, PLC programming, and industrial network protocols.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles related to industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Ladder Logic.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as IEC 62443 and NIST frameworks.
  • Experience with remote monitoring, control systems, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Fluent in English and German.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as CISSP, GICSP, or ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert.
  • Experience in energy, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., VMware, Docker).
  • Familiarity with HMI design and development.
